The list below is a small sample – come in and we can discuss your personal interests. First Aid Training
The purpose of basic first aid training is to prepare you in the event that something does happen in the workplace. Remember, first aid is not medical treatment, but rather the basic first aid understanding you need to help someone who has been injured in the workplace until a medical professional can provide care.
Accidents and injuries can happen anywhere. Anyone can be hurt, from the smallest child to senior citizens. Being prepared with First Aid knowledge and skills means you’re always ready to help people in need and make a real positive difference in a bad situation. These courses are OSHA* & ILCOR compliant. This course consists of an online training segment and an in-person practical class (1 evening). This course satisfies the 1st Aid requirements for the Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Instructor courses.

This OSHA* (standards document) and ILCOR compliant course combines cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) into one program. It is designed to teach the proper techniques to safely administer CPR and utilize an AED in emergency situations involving infants, children, and adults. While not addressing first aid measures this course is the perfect way to prepare individuals to address one of the largest killers worldwide. Implementing CPR and AEDs in the event of an emergency can drastically change outcomes for the better. This course consists of an online training segment and an in-person practical class (1 evening). This course satisfies the CPR/AED requirements for the Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Instructor courses.

SCUBA divers, dive professionals, and boat staff, become more well-rounded rescuers and learn how to how administer oxygen as an emergency procedure.
This course is intended to teach emergency oxygen (O2) administration. This program covers equipment and procedures for administrating oxygen as an emergency procedure. Equipment selection and use for decompression illness emergencies are detailed with practical components to train a well rounded rescuer. This course consists of an online training segment and an in-person practical class (1 evening). This course satisfies the O2 Administration requirements for the Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Instructor courses.

Little else has impacted recreational diving more than the introduction of Nitrox, allowing more time underwater and shorter surface intervals. The Dive Shop offers two Nitrox specialty classes: Computer Nitrox and TDI Nitrox. Both offer a Nitrox certification (with certification card). The TDI Nitrox class is scheduled occasionally as it appears on our events calendar. The Computer Nitrox class is much more flexible – the online portion is done at your convenience and the practical application is arranged to fit your schedule.
SDI Computer Nitrox is designed to teach open water Scuba divers how to use Nitrox mixtures up to 40% with the aid of a programmable computer. The class is 2 parts; an on-line portion followed by a one hour practical application at The Dive Shop where you will analyze a Nitrox gas mix and program a computer to do a Nitrox dive. The Computer Nitrox class is $80 AND…there is no getting wet for this training!

The TDI Nitrox course is a detailed course for divers wishing to utilize enriched air Nitrox as a breathing gas. During this course, you will learn the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for diving with Nitrox mixtures up to 40%. Your TDI Instructor will also cover equipment considerations, cylinder labeling, and analyzing Nitrox mixes. The course follows an easy to read and understand diver manual titled Understanding Nitrox and water proof tables for quick on site reference. The class is conducted at The Dive Shop, is 4 hours in length and does not require any pool or open water dives. The TDI Nitrox course is $125.

OTHER SPECIALTY TRAINING
Underwater Photographer / Video Diver
The Dive Shop offers two specialty certifications in one. With the advent of digital media, the size of photographic equipment has been significantly reduced and the cost of dive cameras is within the reach of most budgets. This gives the average diver an opportunity to create shareable memories of their dives. This course covers the basics of underwater photographic equipment, preparation, composition, the use of light and models, and creation of “stories”. Divers must possess an underwater camera and a lighting system (a limited number of rental cameras are available) for the course. The instruction will consist of a 3 hour class, two open water dives (for the practical application), and a short demonstration period. The class cost is $80, however is you purchase a camera from The Dive Shop, the cost of the class will be reduced 50%.
Dry Suit Diver
This course allows the student to develop knowledge and skills to properly use a dry suit, covering types of dry suits, accessories, maintenance, and basic repair procedures. The course consists of one 4 hour class (typically starts at 6:00 pm) and two open water dives. Divers are required to have their own dry suit for this certification. The course cost is $50.
This specialty course enables the student to perfect their control of their buoyancy in any position in the water column. The course covers the proper weighting and distribution of weight, use of equipment and your lungs to properly control your attitude in the water column. The course consists of one 4 hour class with time in the swimming pool (start time is typically 6:00 pm). The course cost is $50.
