You'll learn how to help less experienced divers who get overwhelmed, and how to keep calm and take charge. Many divers call it the most interesting and rewarding course they take.

How the Rescue course works
You'll spend two Saturdays with us for classroom and pool training, then finish with rescue dives at Blue Lake.
- Classroom and pool: two Saturdays, 9 am to 3 pm
- Open water rescue dives: at Blue Lake near Wendover, on dates arranged in class to work for you and your instructor

What you can do once you're certified
With your SDI Rescue Diver certification, you're qualified to take part in search and recovery operations and to rescue divers in distress. You can also enroll in the SDI Divemaster course.

CPR, first aid and oxygen cards
To finish Rescue Diver, you need current CPR, first aid and emergency oxygen administration cards. We teach these right here at The Dive Shop as part of the Rescue Diver class. Additional costs apply.

Who can take it
To complete the course, you need:
- Your Open Water Scuba Diver certification
- Your Advanced Scuba Diver certification
- Current first aid, CPR and emergency oxygen administration cards
- At least 40 total logged dives (dives in this class count)
Before your first class
Everyone fills out a liability release and medical form before the first class. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign too.

- Guidelines for your doctor (SDI's guide for physicians who don't see much diving medicine)
If you do need the physician's form, get it signed before any pool activities and bring it to class.
Cancellations and rescheduling
We can't refill a seat once a class is close, so here's how it works. Cancel or reschedule more than 7 days before your scheduled event and you get a full refund or a free reschedule. Within 7 days, there's a $35 fee.

About SDI certification
The Dive Shop is an SDI (Scuba Diving International) training center. SDI is a sister agency to TDI (Technical Diving International), which describes itself as the largest technical certification agency in the world. You can learn more at SDI's website.
Rescue Diver FAQ
How much does the Rescue Diver course cost?
The course is $400. That covers your books and your gear rental. Your own transportation, food and lodging for the open water dives are extra, and so are the CPR, first aid and oxygen classes if you need them.
How long is the course?
Classroom and pool training takes two Saturdays, from 9 am to 3 pm. The open water rescue dives happen at Blue Lake near Wendover on dates we set up in class.
What do I need before I sign up?
You need your Open Water Scuba Diver and Advanced Scuba Diver certifications, current first aid, CPR and emergency oxygen administration cards, and at least 40 total logged dives. Dives you do in the class count toward the 40.
I don't have CPR, first aid or oxygen cards yet. What do I do?
We offer those classes at The Dive Shop as part of Rescue Diver training. Additional costs apply.
What will I be able to do when I finish?
You'll be qualified to take part in search and recovery operations and to rescue divers in distress. You'll also be able to enroll in the SDI Divemaster course.
Is there a medical form?
Yes. Everyone fills out a liability release and medical questionnaire before the first class. If you answer yes to any medical question, your physician needs to sign the physician's statement before any pool activities. If your doctor doesn't know much about diving medicine, SDI has guidelines you can hand them.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
