The diving at Beqa Lagoon
Beqa Lagoon is a coral-fringed lagoon near Pacific Harbour, on the main island of Fiji. The Great Beqa Reef wraps around Beqa Island. The resort says it has access to more than 100 dive sites, from about 5 to 30 meters deep, with water temperatures of roughly 25 to 29°C (77 to 84°F).
The reefs are colorful and full of fish, but most people come to Beqa for one thing.
The shark dive
Beqa Lagoon is home to Fiji's original shark dive, in the Shark Reef Marine Reserve. About eight shark species visit, including bull, tiger, silvertip, lemon, grey reef, blacktip reef, whitetip reef and nurse sharks. Bull sharks are the most likely to show up.
The dive happens on a steep reef slope at about 16 meters (55 feet). Divers settle in behind a rock wall while guides feed the sharks. The guides manage the action and use hand signals, so you can just watch. Tourism Fiji recommends bringing a camera.
The reserve was set up in 2004 with local villages. They stopped fishing the reef, and dive fees go back to the community. The coral there has bounced back, and fish numbers have grown in nearby waters, according to Lonely Planet.
Boat dives, shore dives and a night dive
Your package includes five days of two-tank boat dives, with weights and tanks. You also get unlimited shore diving and one night dive.
Where you'll stay: Beqa Lagoon Resort
The Beqa Lagoon Resort is on Beqa Island, about 10 acres of gardens and beach. You get there by boat across the lagoon, and your transfers are included.
The resort has 25 air-conditioned, Fijian-style villas called bures. Meals are served in the main open-air bure. Our package includes three gourmet meals a day.
The resort also has a PADI 5 Star dive center, and you can try snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and the Lali Spa. If you have a non-diving partner, there's plenty for them to do, too.

Which sharks will I see?
About eight species visit Beqa Lagoon's shark dive. Bull sharks are the most likely. Tiger, silvertip, lemon, grey reef, blacktip reef, whitetip reef and nurse sharks also turn up, though nothing is guaranteed.
How do I get to the resort?

Can a non-diver come along?
Yes. The non-diver rate is $4,000 per person. The resort also offers snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and a spa.
