About Our Scuba Classes
The Dive Shop offers safe, affordable Scuba instruction at a pace that you set
We feature certification by Scuba Diving International (SDI)/Technical Diving International (TDI), the largest technical certification agency in the world.
The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course is an entry-level certification course designed to give you the necessary skills to safely conduct open water dives. Some of the skills you will learn include buoyancy, proper weighting, marine conservation, equipment assembly, proper dive planning, and maintenance. It covers all the basic knowledge about equipment, physiology and the marine environment while training students to perform basic skills underwater. This course is the key to start exploring dive destinations around the globe or just in your backyard.
The Dive Shop’s Open Water Scuba Diver Certification price is all inclusive. When signing up, you will pay a deposit; the balance of the class cost is collected on the first day of class.
No need to buy additional books, equipment, and we never require you to purchase equipment that you don’t need.
Your price includes books, equipment rental for 4 class/pool sessions conducted over two weeks (Tues/Thur nights 6:30-10 pm or Saturdays 9 am to 3 pm) and equipment for your 4 Open Water certification dives. The only additional costs would be for transportation/food/lodging for the Open Water dives. Check our list of class dates, find the one that fits your schedule – then click the “Add to Cart” button.. The only additional costs would be for transportation/food/lodging for the Open Water dives.
Classes on Tu/Th run 2 weeks from 6:30 to 10:00 pm
Sat classes run 2 weeks from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
You can sign up for those classes at this link: Dive Shop Scuba Classes
To complete the certification process, you must demonstrate mastery of the basic skills needed to Scuba dive safely. These certification dives (also referred to as Open Water dives) are conducted at Blue Lake (near Wendover) the last weekend of each month, and can also conduct the Open Water dives at the Crater (Midway, UT)* by special arrangement with The Dive Shop. To allow you the most flexibility for your schedule, we seperate the certification dives from the training classes. The certification dives can be scheduled at this link: Certification Dives
*Because the Crater is private property and charges an admission fee, an additional fee will be required if certification dives are performed there.
Liability and Medical Release Forms
All students are required to complete and sign our Liability Release and Medical forms prior to your first class. Parents or guardians will also be required to sign for students under the age of 18. That liability and medical form can be filled out here: Liability Release and Medical Form
IMPORTANT: If the Medical Form has any “Yes” answers, then the Physician’s Form (see below) should be printed and signed by your physician prior to any pool activities. Bring the signed Physician’s Evaluation to your first class.
If your physician does not have experience with scuba-related medicine, SDI has prepared a “Guidelines for Recreational Scuba Diver’s Physical Examination” to assist him/her in making a medical determination of suitability which you can share with your health care provider (Dr’s Guidelines below).
